With a standard user account, you can access the computer, but can’t make any major changes to that account. New programs cannot be run or installed, for example, but existing programs can be run.

That means the standard account helps protect the computer by preventing users from making changes that affect everyone using the computer, such as deleting files needed for the computer to function. If you’re in a standard account (non-admin user), you’ll be able to perform the following functions on Windows 10.

1. You can easily modify your computer’s display settings according to your needs, but can’t adjust the font size or anything deeper.

These are basic functions that standard users can perform on Windows PCs, but with the advancement in Windows versions, more standard users have been given more access. The difference between standard users and administrators

Why use a standard user account?

Most Windows 10 users think it is better to use a computer with an administrator account. You get full access to apps, functions, and even PowerShell commands. But in fact, users should not use an administrator account. As mentioned earlier, one reason you should use a computer with a standard account is to avoid hackers from installing unwanted programs on the system.

How to switch between an administrator account and a standard user account

Switching between a standard user account and an administrator is pretty straightforward. Press the Win key on your keyboard and select the username in your profile picture.

You need to enter the password you set up before. Only that way can you prevent unauthorized access to your account and all related data. On the other hand, anyone with physical access to the computer can access your data.

How to create an administrator account and standard user account

Creating a new standard account or admin is easy.

Step 1 : Press Windows key + I to open Settings and click on Accounts .

You will see two options under Family & other users . If creating an account for a family member, click Add a family member . You can also control which apps and websites your child is allowed to access.

Step 2. If creating a Guest account, click on Add someone else to this PC .

Step 3 . Click on I don’t have this person’s sign-in information and choose Next .

Step 4 . Now you can create a new account with email ID, phone number or just create a new ID without using Microsoft ID. To do that, click on Add a user without Microsoft account .

Step 5 . Enter your username and password, then continue.

So you just created a standard user account.

Step 6 . To change this account from standard user to administrator, click on the account name and select Change account type .

Step 7 . You can grant admin rights to this account.

Note: Never delete the admin account or you will be locked out. That’s because you cannot create an administrator account with a standard account.
