Microsoft has officially announced on the Edge Chromium browser support page (new version) that there will be no option to allow users to uninstall Edge apps installed through Windows Update. In addition, the old version of Edge will also no longer be available after users have switched to the new Edge.
In early June, Microsoft announced that it would start releasing a new Edge browser for global users through Windows Update. This browser platform was originally launched on January 15 this year, but users have to download it themselves if they want to use it. However, by being automatically installed through Windows Update, the new Edge will instantly become the default browser on Windows 10, meaning you won’t be able to remove it from the system.
In the latest post titled “Can’t uninstall Microsoft Edge” on the support blog, Microsoft says it has phased Windows users from the old Edge to the new version phased through updates cumulative and this is a “one way” process:
“We want to make sure all Windows customers get the new Edge browser experience with a range of performance, privacy, security, and support enhancements that the old version couldn’t have.
The new Edge gives users full control over importing personal data from the old version. Also will be included in Windows system update, so the option to uninstall or revert to using the old version will no longer be available.
If you need more assistance, please visit the Microsoft Edge support website or contact our troubleshooting. ”
However, every problem has a solution. If you really want to uninstall the new Edge, you can try the following:
Step 1. Open Command Prompt as administrator
Step 2:. Type the following command at the prompt, then Enter:
C:Program Files (x86)MicrosoftEdgeApplication.0.478.58Installer setup.exe –uninstall –system-level –verbose-logging –force-uninstall
In addition, you can remove the default apps on other Windows 10 according to this guide of make techin.com, I have tried to remove the Microsoft Store and succeeded.
