Population
structure
The Municipality has about 80000 inhabitants, 15000 of which live
in the town itself, while 65000 inhabitants live in 58 villages.
The most populated villages have more than 20000 inhabitants;
20 villages have more than 1000 and only six villages have less
than 500 inhabitants.
The gender structure of the population consists of 41000 men and
39000 women.
The age structure varies as follows:
- up to 14 years about 22000
- 15 – 24 years about 15000
- 25 – 34 years about 13000
- 34 – 44 years about 12000
- 45 – 54 years about 7000
- 55 – 64 years about 6000 and
- over 65 years about 5000 inhabitants
About
28000 refugees and temporarily displaced persons came from former
FR BIH during the past war events on the Municipality territory
and they are settled in Zvornik, Karakaj, Tršić, Kozluk, Divić,
Skočić and Šepik.
There are about 43000 members of active population, 7500 of which
are employed.
Most of the villages are located near the main and regional roads.
All villages are connected to the Municipality centre by serviceable
roads for motor vehicles.
