municipality with Serbia. Thanks to such geographic position,
Zvornik has always represented an important crossroad and a communication
point on the strategically extremely relevant direction West-East.
The terrain of Zvornik municipality is very jagged. The town’s
height varies between 135 and 220 meters above sea level. Whole
area is intersected with water streams and springs which belong
to Drina basin, such as river Sapna, as well as rivers of Kozluk,
Pilica and Jasenica. Some of Zvornik’s natural resources are forests
- about 53% of the total municipal territory, or about 23,670
hectares, of which 11,931 hectares is socially-owned whereas 11,739
hectares is privately owned. High forests cover ¼ of the total
forest-covered territory.

in some places of sandy-clay layers, whereas the terrain where
the town of Zvornik is situated is well covered with earthy layer
of loose material. The terrain around Zvornik is made of rocks
of different geological ages. Wider Zvornik surrounding consists
of three types of rocks. Western part of terrain – the right bank
of river Drina consists of geologically diverse and lithologically
heterogeneous trian masses. Eastern and North-Eastern side is
covered with grandiorite terrain, and between these zones, there
are contact-metamorphic rock zones. Western and South-Western
part of the terrain consists of the Paleozoic and Mesozoic rocks.
Geological stability of the municipal land belongs to the type
of areas with plenty of unstable ground with frequent cases of
landslides, either natural or those caused by human carelessness.
These areas include: Jasenica, Glodi, Gusteri, Krizevici, Setici
etc. The municipal territory has a lot of underground water, especially
near waters that flow through the territory and along river Drina.
The terrain, as a whole, represents a relatively stable ground.
