Economy
It is difficult to discuss the economy of this town prior to the
XX century, due to the lack of reliable data.
During the Austro-Hungarian period, Zvornik was the town of traders
and handicraftsmen, and it remained as such until the seventies
of this century.
It is only then that this town started its industrial development.
The first industrial companies were related to wood processing,
production of construction material, and later – textile, leather,
rubber, mineral water and alumina industries.

Production capacities are located outside the town, in the industrial
zone of Karakaj, namely: Alumina factory "Birac" – one
of the biggest alumina factories in Europe, "Vezionica"
(clothing and mechanical embroidery), "Metalno" (metal
constructions), "Novi izvor" (construction and brick
products), "Zitopromet" (production of bread and pastry),
"Jadar" (wood processing), "Drina-obuca" (footwear
production), "Fagum" (rubber production), "Inzenjering"
(construction company), waterpower company "Drina",
"Famod" (clothing factory), "Hladnjaca" (fruit
and vegetable processing and store), as well as "Mirjam"
(clothing factory).
Apart from these production capacities the industrial zone also
includes a company for freight transport "Autotransport",
as well as freight and passenger railway station.
In the place named Kozluk, about 12 kilometers north from Zvornik,
there is a mineral water and non-alcoholic beverages factory "Vitinka"
which is of particular significance for the development of Municipality
as well as RS. Three kilometers south from Zvornik, in Josanica,
there is a company named "Kamenolom" which produces
well known "sugar" stone which is necessary for production
of sugar from sugar cane, as well as for providing components
for road bases.
