Climatic
Conditions
The climate on the municipal territory is mild and continental.
Summers are warm with average air temperature during the hottest
month – July is between 20º and 22º C.
Winters are mostly cold, and the temperature during the coldest
month – January varies between 1º and 8º C. The prevailing climate
in this region is continental.
The vegetation period on average is between 150 and 200 days with
average temperature from +16 to +18 degrees Celsius.
The municipal territory belongs to the group of territories with
insufficient atmospheric downpours. Average annual downpour is
between 850 mm/m2 of atmospheric sediment as either snow or rain.
Downpours are evenly distributed during the year. The most intensive
downpours are in autumn and spring. Average annual relative humidity
is 78%, and the lowest is in summer period about 60%, whereas
during winter it exceeds 85%. The snow layer height in certain
areas can be as much as 1.20 m with frequent snowdrifts. These
weather elements influence the traffic and damage roofs of residential
and other buildings.

Winds are weak and not so frequent. The prevailing air currents
come from South-West and they are also the strongest. Maximum
wind speed is registered coming from the South at 100 km/h, damaging
mostly roofs and long-distance power lines.
Mists typically appear in valleys, along rivers Drina, Sapna and
others. They often appear during whole year and they are the most
prominent in spring and autumn.
Therefore, as far as climatic elements that determine the potential
danger of natural and other disasters are concerned, it is important
to stress the following:
- air temperature fluctuates a lot during the year,
- relative air humidity is somewhat higher that in the neighboring
areas – about 78%,
- average annual downpours are about 850 mm/m2; there are about
107 days with downpours,
- wind and air currents on the municipal territory are characteristic
and channeled along the river bed of Drina and South-West direction,
with highest speed of 3.4 m/sec,
- there are about 2005 sunny hours during the year, or 45% of
the total time available.
